How can we accurately weigh patients in a community setting with a device that is lightweight and easy to manage and transport?
Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (BCHC) covers a large diverse population who have a lot of complex co-morbidities including those who require their weight to be monitored in their home environment.
On a regular basis community teams are required to monitor a variety of patients weights including children and adults who have a range of co-morbidities and weight baring challenges. Patients are often bed bound or in wheelchairs, which can make weighing them difficult. The current solution requires staff to use wheelchair scales that are made up of two large ramps that weigh around 8kg each. This means that some staff are unable to transport them to patient home addresses as they are bulky and heavy, making manual handling difficult and reducing the ability to manage weight effectively.
The West Midlands Academic Health Science Network (WMAHSN) are looking to identify a solution to be able to accurately weigh patients (children and adults) in a community setting with a device that is lightweight and easy to manage and transport. If you have a solution that can help, please visit Meridian.
