It’s a similar market to the UK with similar business risks and requirements. North Rhine Westphalia with 17.6 million people is the most populous and densely populated of 16 Germany’s federal states apart from the city-states of Berlin, Bremen, and Hamburg. Historically the coal and steel heartland of Germany, the economy now has particular strengths in mechanical engineering, metal and iron working as well as the creative sector with designers, artists and the advertising industry working out of refurbished industrial heritage sites. 27 of Germany’s top 100 firms are based there and it is a magnet for overseas investment and firms looking to grow their sales in Germany.
