Industry Partners Required: BCU Biomedical Sciences Funded Student Micro-Placements Programme 2019

16th April 2019

Birmingham City University (BCU) are pleased to announce the introduction of a new BCU funded micro-placement programme for students to gain work experience in June and July 2019. The aim is to offer students the opportunity to gain some paid experience that allows them to build upon skills learnt through their degree as well as learn new ones which can help them in the future.

Engaging with the micro-placement programme is a great way to access new skills and to identify and review a potential future employee.

Year 2 students studying for a degree in Biomedical Sciences at BCU’s School of Health Sciences are actively looking to gain real-world experience within a laboratory / research environment. Micro-placements will take place from the start of June 2019 for a period of 4 weeks. Students will be undertaking the micro-placement role supported by a scholarship to cover expenses and are not employees either of BCU or the host organisation.

If you have a project or placement idea and are interested in taking on a student this summer then email info@medilinkuk.com.

Micro-Placement Programme 2019

  • Enable your organisation to access student talent to support on projects where you may need additional time and resource.
  • Give your organisation the chance to work with students on a trial basis at no cost to yourselves, with the option of extending the length of these opportunities.
  • Allow the University to demonstrate the value of student input to your organisation.
  • Allow students to gain relevant industry skills and the option of gaining further work working with their organisation, or collaborating with you on their final year dissertation.

Micro-placement opportunities enable students to gain new skills, network and show future employers that they are dedicated and committed to their degree subject.

BCU will then allocate you an Account Manager who will review your requirements and take you through next steps, including help to recruit a suitable student via BCU’s free recruitment service based on the given role/project description. They will be your point of contact over the course of the micro-placement.

It is anticipated that the majority of micro-placements will take place from the start of June 2019 for a period of 4 weeks. Students will be paid £200 a week to cover their expenses by Birmingham City University for a duration of 4 weeks. Any continuation will be agreed between the student and host organisation. Your organisation can offer more than one opportunity and take more than one student, providing you are able to support them.

After the completion of the micro-placement your organisation will be issued with a certificate demonstrating your ongoing commitment to working in partnership with BCU. BCU will be hosting a celebration event where your organisation and student will be able to network, and take part in the first BCU Micro-placements awards evening.

If you have a project or placement idea and are interested in gaining an enthusiastic member of your team, with up-to-date skills and knowledge developed during their first two years of study email info@medilinkuk.com.
