Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospitals Charity has launched an urgent appeal to support NHS workers amid the ongoing Coronavirus crisis.
Louise McCathie, Director of Fundraising at Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospitals Charity, said: “Our amazing staff are currently going above and beyond the call of duty to care for and protect some of the most vulnerable members of society. However we are starting to feel the true impact of this additional and excessive strain on the wider NHS service. Therefore we really do need your support now, more than ever before.
The NHS is at the forefront of the fight against COVID-19 (coronavirus) and our dedicated colleagues – from domestics to doctors, nurses to porters – here at Birmingham Children’s Hospital are doing all they can to care for those most at risk, including children, young mental health patients and those with underlying health issues.
Capacity at our hospital, including the number of intensive care beds, has been significantly increased to take on more of the sickest children from across the Midlands, supporting NHS hospitals throughout the region as we all adapt to the extreme challenges placed on us by the COVID-19 outbreak.
We have launched our emergency COVID-19 Appeal to support our NHS heroes on the frontline and the children and families in our care. It will enable funding of emergency overnight accommodation for worried parents so that they can stay close to their children, provide much-needed food, drinks and care packages for frontline staff to sustain them during this crisis, and enable a rapid response to the unpredictable and unprecedented demands over the coming months.
That’s why we’re asking you for your help. By donating what you can today, or by committing to giving on a regular basis, you can help us to continue some of our essential hospital and patient support.”
