Launch of a new West Midlands Science Skills Group

1st March 2021

Medilink Midlands are working with SIP to draw an industry-focused and driven program to look at the current and future specific training and skill requirements for and to support the Life Science health and MedTech industry sector and we would welcome your input. Please join us on 22 April (10.30 am – 12.00 pm) to learn more and see how this program may help your business and our sector.

The Science Industry Partnership (SIP), supported by Cogent Skills, are launching SIP West Midlands in partnership with Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership (GBSLEP).

This new initiative will bring together science using companies in the region with a specific focus on the Health and Medical Technology sector. The employer-led group will drive a collaborative approach to sharing best practice, addressing skills needs and growing apprenticeship and graduate numbers in the region.

SIP West Midlands will be the latest addition to the SIP local network after great success in the North East, Liverpool and Cambridge regions.

The main benefits of SIP West Midlands will include:

  • Influencing core and specialist skills delivery in the West Midlands region so that it fits with Health and Medical Technology sector business needs
  • Collaborating to establish local apprenticeship delivery to develop local talent
  • Gaining direct support and advice on how to access and utilise levy funding to train Apprentices (both levy and non-levy payers)
  • Being involved in Apprenticeship Standards development
  • Access to the hugely successful SIP Ambassador Careers Outreach programme reaching into local schools and colleges
  • Attending quarterly skills networking meetings with like-minded employers and key skills partners

The digital launch event will set out the vision for the group. It will be a fantastic opportunity for employers in the region to come together and hear more about how to get involved in an industry-led group that will lead to the development of a forward-looking skills agenda and delivers growth in the take up of vocational skills.

Employers who join will benefit from collaboration with like-minded individuals, learn and share best practice and develop the skills solutions needed for the science industry in the West Midlands.

You can register for the event and find out more here.
